It is true that Chernev is a little dated, but I think it's a great book for beginners. I love Nunn's Understanding Chess Move by Move and right before that I would recommend McDonald's Chess: The Art of Logical Thinking as a follow-up before Nunn.

I'll definitely check out your blog.

Best regards!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05909433338448836005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7256076550910823212.post-83249927656232256102014-06-05T14:43:57.349-07:002014-06-05T14:43:57.349-07:00I totally agree with all your recommendations, but...I totally agree with all your recommendations, but would add that Chernev's book is a bit old, and the ideas about chess expressed there are somewhat antiquated. Although it is a good choice for beginning players, you should quickly move on to more modern game collections. I recommend Michael Stean's Simple Chess, which is excellent. After Stean, the next general game collection to read is John Nunn's Understanding Chess Move by Move.

And, of course, you should check out my chess blog: http://rocketcheckmate.blogspot.com/Sputnickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14667764731653999077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7256076550910823212.post-64733888354804830872014-05-29T16:55:47.866-07:002014-05-29T16:55:47.866-07:00It's a great book.
